    Description

    Location: Massachusetts (hybrid/remote – must be able to regularly travel to Boston)

    Time: Full-time, some evenings & weekends, flexible schedule & paid time off, plus quarterly office closures

    Reports to: Deputy Director

    The Director of Development and Communications will be responsible for developing and implementing communications strategies and fundraising plans to maximize MTPC’s capacity to deliver on the organization’s objectives. As a part of MTPC’s team of directors, this position will require versatility, demonstrated leadership, strong communication and collaboration skills, and an organized and flexible work style. The position will create and achieve fundraising goals and objectives, influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships, and connect with MTPC’s clients and community members to strengthen our programs, services, and financial sustainability and reserves.

    Responsibilities

    Communications

    • Lead the development of messaging and content for the organization, our programs, fundraising, and campaigns that appropriately reflect MTPC’s mission and values
    • Formalize and manage an organizational branding and communications style guide
    • Manage MTPC’s social media accounts and platforms and develop engagement strategies for each
    • Create, draft, and design content for MTPC’s print and digital communications and marketing efforts
    • Assist each of MTPC’s teams with:
      • Developing communications and marketing plans
      • Coordinating community partnerships, memberships, coalitions, and sponsorships
      • Advertising and promoting MTPC’s programs, services, resources, and events
    • Collaborate on the maintenance, design, and content management of MTPC’s website(s).
    • Manage MTPC’s brand, content library, physical and digital records, and archival material.
    • Oversee the intake and processing of community and public outreach and inquiries to MTPC

    PR & Media

    • Prepare and publish MTPC’s press releases and public statements
    • Identify key media and advertising partners for the promotion of MTPC’s work and programs
    • Monitor and document appearances of MTPC in the press and media
    • Cultivate and maintain contacts in local, regional, and national press and media outlets
    • Collaborate with the Executive and Deputy Directors to communicate effectively and appropriately with the press and media

    Operations and Administration

    • Participate in annual budgeting processes, especially regarding fundraising revenue and expenses.
    • Lead the development and execution of MTPC’s annual fundraising strategy and action plans in collaboration with the Deputy Director, Executive Director, and Board of Directors.
    • Assist with management of the organization’s CRM, donor, and funding partner accounts.
    • Update and maintain MTPC’s communications and fundraising policies and procedures
    • Manage communications and fundraising volunteers, interns, and contractors.

    Individual Giving & Stewardship

    • Expand the organization’s donor base to include new audiences that are not well represented in MTPC’s current network and contact lists.
    • Assist with the planning and implementation of MTPC’s new membership program
    • Strengthen our relationships with existing and former donors, especially our recurring donors.
    • Ensure timely and proactive donor stewardship and engagement for donors of all levels
    • Work closely with the Executive and Deputy Directors to expand MTPC’s major giving program, including the cultivation of relationships with potential donors and stewardship of existing donors
    • Support the Deputy Director with the development of a planned giving strategy and program

    Institutional Giving

    • Manage MTPC’s grants portfolio in close collaboration with the Executive and Deputy Directors
    • Explore and cultivate new institutional fundraising opportunities, identify and approach possible funding partners, and develop relationships with their key contacts and decision makers
    • Diversify MTPC’s institutional giving portfolio to include social justice, public health, and racial equity funders, private and family foundations, and state and local government grants
    • Represent MTPC at funder meetings and events

    Corporate Giving

    • Redevelop and expand MTPC’s corporate giving program
    • Ensure the mission- and values-alignment of MTPC’s corporate partners and sponsors
    • Partner with the Director of Engagement and Learning on corporate engagement and stewardship, and strategize around corporate partnership benefits and deliverables
    • Coordinate corporate stewardship events such as meetings, conferences, and roundtables
    • Represent MTPC at corporate partner meetings and events

    Qualifications, Experience, Strengths, and Skills

    Essential

    • Comprehensive understanding of trans and nonbinary identities, rights, and community needs.
    • Ability to construct and implement annual strategic fundraising and communications plans.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively, influence and advocate for MTPC’s work to a wide variety of constituencies.
    • An understanding of best practices for nonprofit communications, marketing, and promotion.
    • Demonstrated experience managing social media portfolios and websites.
    • Tangible experience having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time.
    • Have a passion for social change/social justice and commitment to the mission of MTPC.
    • Capable of both a high degree of independence and team approach in work responsibilities.
    • Personal and/or professional experience with trans, nonbinary, and gender expansive communities.
    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects with competing deadlines.
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong administrative skills and attention to detail.

    Desired

    • Experience working for trans rights or other social justice movements.
    • Experience with corporate relations and/or institutional funder stewardship activities
    • Experience using platforms such as EveryAction, Google Workspace, Canva, or equivalents.
