LOCATION:

The Partnership team works in a hybrid capacity. This position is expected to be in schools 40-80% of the time (2-4 days/week), with occasional visits to the Partnership office in Downtown LA.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools is seeking a strategic and systems-oriented Lead Principal Supervisor. Reporting directly to the Chief Schools Officer, the Lead Principal Supervisor will support school-wide transformation by supervising and coaching a team of Principal Supervisors to effectively support school leaders and school communities, and enhance academic, cultural, and operational systems in service of student achievement. The Lead Principal Supervisor will manage, support, and coach a small caseload of principals and their teams.  Additionally, they will work closely with the Chief Schools Officer to ensure cohesion across school supports and services provided by the Partnership’s cross-functional teams and Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). The Lead Principal Supervisor will utilize their commitment to equity and anti-racism to impact system change, remove barriers, and scale success not only across the Partnership network but within LAUSD and beyond. This is a full-time, year-round position.


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:


Supervision & Coaching of Principal Supervisors (50%)

  • Coach, develop, build capacity of, and hold Partnership Principal Supervisors accountable for effective principal supervision and coaching
  • Lead and manage a team of Principal Supervisors responsible for overseeing instruction, operations, coaching, and support for elementary and secondary Partnership school leaders
  • Oversee strategy and activities of the Principal Supervisor team, including coherence, collaboration, and alignment with other Partnership teams to ensure a seamless school support system 
  • Lead the Principal Supervisor team through planning cycles, growth and development opportunities, progress monitoring, and performance evaluations
  • Model Partnership competencies for direct reports and team members
  • Participate in org-wide collaborative spaces, as needed 


Professional Development of Principal Supervisors (15%)

  • Create systems that develop and codify the Principal Supervisor support model, primarily through providing training and resources on LAUSD practices, Partnership initiatives, effective principal coaching and evaluation, and research-based school leadership best practices
  • Develop and monitor the implementation of key school transformation systems across the Partnership network of schools with a focus on instructional leadership, data-driven decision-making, HQIM, engaging partners and communities, and talent management and development
  • In collaboration with the Data & Impact Team and Principal Supervisor team, effectively analyze and act on data to identify gaps, pain points, and school site operational and talent needs


Supervision and Coaching of School Leaders (15%)

  • Provide direct support and coaching to a small caseload of Partnership principals to bolster academic culture, student achievement, and teacher practice, all with an eye toward codifying systems of support for the Principal Supervisor team
  • Ensure that all assigned schools create an excellent program of study and that teacher assignments meet the needs of all students on their climb to and through college
  • Provide school leaders with side-by-side support for implementing the multi-measure teacher evaluation system
  • Provide direct support and assistance to school leaders on staff performance and discipline issues
  • Implement talent management strategies to ensure that all Partnership schools are staffed with highly effective teachers and administrators
  • Manage the selection process for principals, certificated and classified employees, and instructional specialists at assigned schools 


Manage Local District and LAUSD Coordination and Relationships (10%)

  • Cultivate relationships with LAUSD and regional leadership on behalf of Partnership schools, priorities, and systems change efforts
  • Collaborate with LAUSD leadership to ensure compliance with district priorities while actively integrating with Partnership priorities and providing guidance for school-based and Partnership staff
  • Develop and manage key relationships with LAUSD staff to assist schools in accessing resources and removing obstacles that hinder transformation
  • Support with influencing revisions to restrictive district policies and practices


Strategic Leadership & Collaboration (10%)

  • In collaboration with other Partnership team leads, provide strategic support to the Chief Schools Officer on curriculum, instruction, and programming
  • Administer and coordinate the Pre-K-12 instruction and operations, ensuring schools comply with essential policies & procedures 
  • Assist in preparing reports for the Partnership Board, Executive Team, and the public
  • Undertake additional duties, special projects, and responsibilities as designated by the Chief Schools Officer


POSITION FIRST-YEAR PRIORITIES

A successful first year in this role will look like:

  • Successful implementation of the Partnership’s transformation model including:
  • Improve the percentage of students that are on-track for college completion as measured by the Partnership network goals dashboard
  • Improve the number of schools that are making progress toward powerful schooling and improving on the phases of transformation as measured by the Partnership network goals dashboard


  • Successful development and codification of the Partnership’s Principal Supervisor model:
  • Train Principal Supervisors in LAUSD Operational and Human Resources practices, in addition to Partnership Instructional and Operational Initiatives
  • Train Principal Supervisors on effective principal coaching, and evaluation practices
  • Monitor the training and development of Partnership Administrators on research-based school leadership best practices


  • Develop and cultivates strong working relationships with LAUSD Senior Officials, at the Region and Central levels 
  • Develop and cultivate strong working relationships with Partnership team and Partnership School Site Administrators 



REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 10 years of successful experience as an instructional leader and/or a district-level administrator with a demonstrated track record of accelerating student achievement in urban school settings. 
  • Minimum 5 years of management experience, including managing and leading teams (including teams of managers and directors), complex projects, and cross-functional teams
  • Successful teaching and leadership experiences across elementary and secondary  levels preferred
  • Masters degree is required
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and work under multiple deadlines
  • Strong team player and active collaborator
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written 
  • The ability to travel between school sites and Partnership home office
  • Spanish language fluency (spoken and written), preferred
  • Working understanding of K-12 public education sector, preferred

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The starting salary range for external candidates is $201,250. The Partnership’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion extends to our compensation practices.
