    Description

    Job purpose

    The Gallery Programs & Sales Manager presents and promotes the work of NIAD artists through

    exhibition project management and logistics. This position cultivates relationships with collectors and

    collaborates closely within the Art Marketing & Partnerships team, across departments at NIAD, and with

    external partners to support expanding NIAD’s audiences and building acclaim for all NIAD artists.

    Duties and responsibilities

    Exhibitions & Receptions

    Manage exhibitions at NIAD Art Center’s 23rd Street Galleries:

    • With oversight from the Art Marketing & Partnerships Director, maintain NIAD’s 23rd Street

    exhibitions calendar with 12 months of exhibitions (curator, exhibition concept, public programs)

    and 6 months of details (exhibition titles, checklists, exhibition summaries) as well as multiple

    contingency plans to accommodate cancellations and schedule shifts.

    • Work closely with communications staff to ensure exhibition details are shared out in a timely

    manner via various channels to the press, NIAD’s audiences via social media and newsletters,

    community partners, etc.

    • With support from members of the team, lead installation and deinstallation of shows on 23rd

    Street, often working with outside organizers and sometimes with the work of outside artists, in

    addition to NIAD artists.

    • Photograph and inventory all NIAD artworks for exhibitions, photograph installation views of

    gallery exhibitions at NIAD.

    • Send consignment forms/exhibition agreements for non-NIAD artists participating in exhibitions,

    and manage shipping and delivery of artworks from external artists for exhibitions at NIAD,

    pick-up artworks from local galleries and artist studios, as needed.

    • Create price sheets for all exhibitions, and manage on-site sales. Send exhibition previews to

    collectors, and correspond with interested buyers in a way that is professional, engaging, and

    knowledgeable about practices of NIAD and non-NIAD artists.

    • Maintain wall surfaces and gallery facilities; assist in planning for gallery maintenance and annual

    exhibitions budget.

    • Produce and manage monthly receptions in NIAD’s 23rd Street Galleries in coordination with

    volunteer committee:

    • Schedule volunteers, coordinate procurement of food and beverages
    • Plan and execute workshops, artist talks, and other public programs
    • Set up and takedown before/after each event
    • Collaborate with team on studio sales
    • May need to run various errands and/or manage exhibitions assistants, volunteers, or interns.

    Manage off-site exhibitions and opportunities:

    • Plan and execute all facets of exhibitions at off-site venues.
    • With oversight from the Art Marketing and Partnerships Director and in collaboration with the

    Exhibitions and Collections Specialist, liaise with external gallery partners and oversee the

    prompt completion of consignment forms or loan agreements.

    • With Exhibition and Collections specialist, pack artworks safely and coordinate shipping and

    artwork pick-ups to external venues.

    • Transport artwork to local exhibitions.
    • Work with Artist Liaison and Community Programs staff as needed to apply for juried shows and

    other application-based opportunities for artists and coordinate their attendance.

    Inventory & Sales:

    • Welcome visitors to NIAD’s Gallery. Assist in navigating NIAD’s vast inventory in person, as well as

    in our online store, and drive sales of art to meet target budget goals and generate income for

    artists.

    • Oversee fulfillment of online sales.
    • Keep abreast of work being made in the studio and create an upload strategy for bi-monthly

    inventory drops that balances equity towards all artists with sales trends and forecasting.

    • Support NIAD’s burgeoning art fair program including packing, coordinating shipping, and

    managing insurance; traveling with Art Marketing and Partnerships Director to fairs; installing

    artwork at the fair; liaising with collectors; and selling artwork. Gather new client information

    and cultivate relationships to build NIAD’s collector base.

    • Oversee photography and cataloging of works of art for inventory as well as maintaining art in

    storage.

    • Continue creation of hi-res JPGs of all current NIAD artworks.
    • Manage digital photography assets via Flickr or another platform.
    • Sort down recent art and conduct portfolio reviews with studio facilitators.
    • Maintain the organization of artwork storage spaces and flat files.
    • Work with art consultants and other independent art professionals to support access to NIAD’s

    Inventory and Art Sales.

    • In collaboration with NIAD’s Artist Advisory Committee, build a system of cataloguing and

    inventorying that reflects NIAD’s commitment to centering artist voices, and provides artists with

    access to their work and data on art sales. Generate a cohesive and fully accessible archive for

    browsing by external and internal audiences.

    Direct Support to Artists & Programs

    • Develop professional practices curriculum offerings, including invited guest speakers, portfolio

    development, and curatorial practices.

    • Collaborate with Community and Studio Programs in developing artist-driven opportunities, such

    as juried exhibitions, art fairs and festivals, and community-based art sales and exhibition

    projects.

    • Collaborate with Community Programs to ensure artist attendance at exhibitions-related events.
    • Table local events such as book fairs, offsite art sales, and manage staffing for such events.
    • Support with the auction component/artwork sales of fundraisers.
    • Other duties as assigned.Qualifications

    Qualifications include:

    • 3-4 years of experience working in a gallery environment or related field.
    • Strong project management expertise.
    • Experience with power- and hand-tools, installing artwork, and framing art work.
    • Keen attention to detail and familiarity with Shopify, art inventory databases, Photoshop, PayPal,

    Square, & Mailchimp.

    • Professional telephone and email etiquette; ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at

    once and willingness to reorganize priorities when necessary.

    • Experience with digital photography and image editing strongly preferred.
    • Spanish or another language is preferred, but not required.
    • Ability to manage and collaborate with others.
    • Love and knowledge of contemporary art and artworld.
    • Willing to try new ideas, recognize when something is not working, and pivot.
    • Exceptional time management and ability to meet deadlines both independently and as a part of

    a team.

    • Ability to work flexible hours including weekend and evening hours, as needed.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle to run errands, and be comfortable with

    driving a sprinter van to deliver artwork.

    Working conditions

    This is a full-time salaried (exempt) position at 40 hours/week on-site, with flexibility needed for some

    evening and weekend work.

    Salary range: $68,640-$75,000

    Physical requirements

    This position is designed to be primarily in-person, and COVID-19 vaccination is required.

    Most work will occur on-site at NIAD Art Center, with occasional remote duties.

    Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs and may need to stand on hard surfaces for periods of time and use a

    ladder.
