    Start Date: ASAP

    Context for this Position

The Boulder Housing Coalition (BHC) is Colorado’s leading cooperative housing nonprofit, spearheading the creation of permanently affordable, community-focused housing for 25 years. We operate four housing cooperatives in Boulder, home to about 60 residents, and in 2024 expanded our mission across the Front Range by opening a fifth cooperative house for 20 low-income residents in Denver. Each house has 12-20 low-income residents who have private bedrooms but share all common space, pool money for food, divide up chores, and make all decisions at weekly consensus meetings. Each house has representation on our board of directors, which meets monthly to make decisions by consensus that impact the whole organization.

    About the Role

The Facilities Director will be responsible for the care and maintenance of our five permanently affordable cooperative homes.

You’ll work alongside the Executive Director, Development Director, Director of Operations, board members, and residents to ensure our properties stay safe, beautiful, and sustainable.

As a small, tight-knit team, we all support each other across roles as needed.

This is a new position — perfect for someone who is self-directed, excited to build systems, solve problems, and steward cooperative homes with love and precision.

    Qualifications

We are a community-focused organization. Our Facilities Director must be:

    • Welcoming, patient, and responsive
    • Organized, reliable, and detail-oriented
    • Skilled at balancing many moving parts at once
    • Comfortable enforcing standards while building trust
    • Respectful of people of all ages, identities, and backgrounds.
    • Committed to the ongoing work of social equity and inclusion
    • Current Boulder resident.

    Ideal candidates will have:

    • Hands-on experience in facilities management, property management, or building maintenance
    • Excellent communication and people skills
    • Bonus: Familiarity with the cooperative movement, consensus decision-making, and/or restorative justice (preferred but not required)

    Responsibilities

    Property Management

    • Ensure BHC properties are safe, well-maintained, and welcoming for all residents
    • Conduct annual inspections at each property; identify upcoming maintenance needs and resident "wish lists"
    • Maintain clear records of all maintenance and improvement projects
    • Pursue environmentally sustainable maintenance solutions
    • Respond to resident maintenance questions and concerns
    • Oversee major maintenance and capital projects
    • Stay aligned with the annual maintenance budget; provide recommendations to the Board as needed
    • Troubleshoot emergency maintenance issues when they arise
    • Provide guidance, support, and training to house maintenance stewards
    • Support move out procedures and room checks
    • Support the BHC in identifying and evaluating new properties for the creation of more co-ops

    Organizational Support

    • Attend weekly 3-hour virtual all-staff meetings
    • Participate in monthly board and committee meetings as needed
    • Support residents and applicants with maintenance-related questions
    • Help maintain a welcoming, professional environment for residents, staff, and the public
    • Participate in ongoing personal/professional development, including training in effective communication, anti-oppression, and restorative justice practices

    Benefits

    • $22/hour
    • 4 paid vacation days and 4 unpaid sick days annually
    • Participation in SIMPLE IRA retirement program (with Vanguard)
    • Flexible weekly schedule
    • Abundance of professional development opportunities
    • Supportive, affirming work culture where individual expression is encouraged
