We are seeking a dynamic and hands-on part time Communications & Advocacy Manager to lead external communications, partner with our founder on key messaging and narrative strategy, and track communications performance metrics across the organization. The ideal candidate is both a storyteller and a strategist - someone who can translate vision into content, and content into impact.

This role is remote, part-time, and will report directly to the Founder and Executive Director.

    Responsibilities:

    • Own and manage Food Connect’s communication calendar, messaging priorities, and digital advocacy campaigns
    • Draft and distribute monthly newsletters, ensuring alignment with organizational milestones and fundraising needs
    • Translate the founder’s vision and organizational strategy into compelling content for partners, donors, and the broader public
    • Write, edit, and manage core communications such as press releases, donor letters, updates, and one-pagers
    • Collaborate with design team (including graphic designer) to produce branded, high-quality visual content

    Advocacy, Visibility & Thought Leadership

    • Partner with leadership to elevate Food Connect’s presence across advocacy platforms, coalitions, and media
    • Draft talking points, op-eds, and thought leadership content that reflects the organization’s mission and tone
    • Support and amplify the voice of the founder through consistent messaging, interview prep, and speechwriting

    Metrics, KPIs & Cross-Team Collaboration

    • Set and track KPIs across communication channels (newsletters, social media, media mentions, open rates, etc.)
    • Use data insights to refine messaging strategies and demonstrate impact to stakeholders
    • Work closely with development, program, and partnership teams to align on message timing, content needs, and outreach goals

    Candidate Qualifications and Traits

    • 5–7 years of experience in nonprofit communications, advocacy, or public affairs
    • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills
    • Proven ability to own and manage projects from start to finish with minimal supervision
    • Experience tracking communication KPIs and presenting performance data clearly
    • Tech-savvy, with familiarity using tools like Mailchimp, Google Analytics, Canva, or equivalent
    • High emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal skills
    • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, mission-driven, and remote environment
    • Passion for food justice, equity, and community-centered work
