Sadie Nash Leadership Project (SNLP) provides award-winning experiential social justice education and leadership development programs to nearly 700 young women and gender-expansive youth of color in New York City and Newark, NJ each year. Operating with love and rigor, we use the tools of popular education to build critical consciousness, community, and college readiness. Our programs include a nationally recognized six-week summer institute, in-school and after-school classes, college access and persistence support, and an advanced-level fellowship to design and implement an original social justice project. We strengthen, empower, and equip our participants to lead lives in committed pursuit of joy and liberation for self and community.

    About the Position

SNLP is seeking a creative, responsive, ambitious and enthusiastic Program Coordinator to join its full-time team. The selected individual will work closely with the Newark Program Manager, the Director of Programs, and with other full-time and part-time staff to expand access to high-quality, values-aligned programming for young women and gender-expansive youth of color in Newark, NJ. This Program Coordinator will catalyze their knowledge of local communities with their understandings of youth development, popular education, and the values and philosophy of SNLP. The Program Coordinator will play an active role in building positive relationships with community members and other stakeholders of SNLP, increasing the participation of young people and educators across the sites of SNLP, contributing to a team-oriented and accountable work environment, and promoting equity and inclusion through SNLP programming.

    What You’ll Do

The Program Coordinator reports to the Newark Program Manager, and is responsible for the following:

    Program Planning and Management

    • Provide on-site assistance to SNLP staff, interns, and volunteers during programs, special events, and training workshops (including professional development trainings)
    • Work closely with team members to address immediate and anticipated needs within SNLP programs
    • Contribute to staff discussions on ways to innovate and strengthen our work on equity, inclusion, and access for young women and gender-expansive youth of color

    Community Facilitation, Engagement & Recruitment

    • Facilitate 1-2 cohorts at our Newark office or a partnership site, and lead presentations designed to increase SNLP youth
    • Initiate and build partnerships with local schools, community-based organizations, and individuals or groups who are interested in SNLP program offerings (including but not limited to SNLP Partnership Program)
    • Represent SNLP and distribute relevant materials in professional learning groups/networks, training sessions, outreach fairs, community events, and fundraising and promotional events
    • Design and implement communication strategies regarding resources and opportunities available for SNLP participants, including information from community partners

    Administration and General Support

    • Collaborate with other staff to maintain and update internal systems of data and documentation that support SNLP programs
    • Create and maintain a comprehensive database of current and potential partners for SNLP
    • Provide overall organizational and administrative support across the areas of programming, finance, operations, development, and communications

    Keys to Success

To be successful in this position, you will need to excel in these core areas:

    • Skilled social justice education facilitator: Knowledge of positive youth development principles, which recognizes young people’s inherent expertise in relation to their own lives as well as their rights and roles in creating sustainable, youth-responsive infrastructure within existing local and global systems. Experience working with marginalized communities, such as people of color, people with disabilities, low-income and poor people, homeless/unhoused people, and immigrants.
    • Youth and Community Engagement: Commitment to providing high quality leadership development programming to youth in Newark, seeking opportunities to expand and deepen Sadie Nash’s work in impactful ways. You will also support the partnership team in reaching 100-160 nashers in Newark.
    • Relationship building: You have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and prepare and deliver workshops, presentations and written materials appropriate for diverse platforms. You connect easily with and earn the confidence of a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
