    Description

Absolutely! Here's the revised version with HIPAA in place of FERPA, and a more accurate note on the time commitment:

Do you have 5 hours per week to spare? Are you a legal professional with experience in nonprofit or tech law, looking to support a mission-driven organization doing good for a niche academic audience?

FindingFive (https://www.findingfive.com) is a platform built for academic researchers who run online experiments in psychology, cognitive science, linguistics, and related behavioral sciences. We're supported by FindingFive Corporation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, with the mission of advancing online behavioral research for the public benefit.

We are seeking a volunteer Legal Counsel to help us navigate legal matters relevant to nonprofits and SaaS organizations. Familiarity with academic institutions, privacy regulations, and research-related legal concerns is a plus.

    #1 Volunteer? So, no pay?

That’s right—FindingFive is a 100% volunteer-driven organization. From our president to our software developers and researcher support team, everyone donates their time. So this position is unpaid. If that’s a dealbreaker, we understand completely.

But we’re doing this as a labor of love, building something tailored to the needs of behavioral scientists in academia. If our mission (https://news.findingfive.com/our-mission-at-findingfive/) resonates with you, we’d love to have you join us.

Volunteering comes with a few perks:

    • Complimentary Pro subscription to FindingFive (for research use) for the duration of your volunteership.
    • The chance to work closely with a small, committed, and collaborative team.
    • The satisfaction of helping shape a legally sound, ethically responsible platform for scientific research.

    #2 What we’re looking for:

    • Legal experience with 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations.
    • Familiarity with legal considerations for SaaS platforms—terms of service, liability, compliance, etc.
    • Knowledge of academic environments, research ethics, and data privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR) is a strong plus.
    • Ability to explain legal matters clearly to a non-legal team and help translate policy into practice.

    #3 Your responsibilities may include:

    • Reviewing or drafting internal and external policies (terms of service, privacy policies, data handling procedures, etc.).
    • Advising on compliance with nonprofit regulations and maintaining U.S. tax-exempt status.
    • Providing input on intellectual property, privacy, and platform liability concerns.
    • Being available for occasional legal questions that arise during product development or organizational planning.

    #4 Time Commitment:

    • Legal needs at FindingFive are infrequent, given our small size and focused mission. While we’d love to have someone available for up to 5 hours per week if needed, actual time spent is typically much lower on average.

This position is 100% remote—just like every other role at FindingFive since 2018. If you're looking to contribute your legal expertise to a cause that supports scientific research and academic progress, we’d love to hear from you!
