    Description

    Overview:

As a mentor, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on a student's academic and personal growth by providing guidance, encouragement, and support throughout their college journey.

    Time Commitment:

    • Approximately 1-2 hours per month, with communication frequency varying based on the student's needs and stage in their academic career.

    Qualifications:

    • A four-year college degree
    • Ability to pass a background check
    • Commitment to attending a 2-hour in-person training session during the spring

    Mentor Responsibilities:

As a mentor, you will provide guidance and encouragement to a student throughout their academic career. The time commitment is flexible, typically requiring 1-2 hours per month. The responsibilities and communication expectations are as follows:

    • First Year:
      • First Semester: weekly communication
      • Second Semester: communication shifts to twice per month
    • Second Year:
      • Communication remains twice per month
    • Third Year and Fourth Year:
      • Communication drops to once per month

Each conversation's length will vary, depending on the needs of the student. You will have the flexibility to communicate via phone, video calls, or in person, as best suits both you and your mentee.

    Additional Expectations:

    • Mentor Training: Mentors are required to attend a 2 hour, in person training in the spring. Trainings are typically held in April and May.
    • Matching Process: Mentors will be matched with students in April or May. You will receive information about your assigned student at this time.
    • Award Ceremony: Mentors are strongly encouraged to attend our annual award ceremony on June 1st, where they will meet their student in person for the first time. If you are unable to attend, you may arrange an alternate meeting time with your student.

If you are interested in making a meaningful difference in the life of a student, we encourage you to apply for this volunteer mentorship opportunity. Your time and dedication will have a lasting impact on a student’s success.
