    Who You Are

    We are seeking a passionate and strategic volunteer Public Relations Manager to elevate the visibility of our mission and amplify the impact of our work. This role will be key in shaping our public image, crafting compelling messaging, and cultivating strong relationships with media outlets and key stakeholders.

    What You’ll Do

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive PR and media strategy aligned with organizational goals.
    • Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, and op-eds.
    • Proactively pitch stories to local, national, and international media outlets.
    • Build and maintain a media contact database and manage ongoing outreach.
    • Monitor media coverage and share performance metrics with the leadership team.
    • Collaborate with the communications and social media team to ensure message consistency.
    • Support crisis communications planning and execution as needed.
    • Represent the organization in public forums, interviews, or events (as applicable).

    Qualifications

    • Proven experience in public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field (nonprofit or advocacy experience a plus).
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong storytelling abilities with a keen understanding of media dynamics.
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • A passion for human rights, social justice, and global equity.
    • Having existing contacts and relations with press outlets in the DC-area is preferred.

    Compensation and Commitment

    This is a volunteer, hybrid opportunity with the expectation of 5-10 hours of work per week. At least a six-month time commitment is required. Candidates based in the Washington-DC area preferable.
