    Description

Social Media Coordinator (Remote Volunteer) | Tell Stories, Prevent Violence, Build Resiliency!

Amplify Impact. Connect Communities. Storytelling for Prevention!

SILO² (Social Intelligence Laboratory for Opportunities in Systems Innovations with Localized Outcomes) is a nonprofit innovation lab using digital tools and interdisciplinary expertise to reduce harm, prevent violence, and build community resilience; especially in under-resourced and remote areas.

We are seeking a mission-driven Social Media Coordinator to lead the next phase of our digital engagement strategy. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced communications professional or advanced student to shape the voice and presence of a growing organization working at the intersection of public health, technology, and social good.

    🧠 About the Role

As Social Media Coordinator, you will design and launch our updated social media strategy under the mentorship of our Advisor for Communications. This role offers high-impact visibility: you'll help promote regional and national initiatives including tribal health workshops in Alaska, harm-reduction education at local festivals, and our upcoming statewide Summit on violence prevention and resilience.

You’ll work closely with our Content Editor and Design & Digital Media Coordinator to ensure consistency and creativity across all channels.

    🌐 What You'll Do

    • Manage and regularly update SILO²’s social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Bluesky, X/Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, and more).
    • Create and schedule original, mission-aligned content that amplifies our programs, partnerships, and impact.
    • Collaborate with the Content Editor and design team to align written and visual storytelling.
    • Coordinate messaging with the Advisor for Communications to ensure brand voice, tone, and strategy are cohesive across platforms.
    • Monitor analytics using tools like HootSuite or Sprout Social, and use insights to improve engagement and inform content planning.
    • Respond to comments, messages, and DMs with warmth and professionalism to foster community engagement.
    • Stay on top of emerging social media trends and recommend innovative strategies to enhance reach and resonance.
    • Generate brief monthly reports and assist with communications updates for the Executive Chair and Board of Directors.

    🎯 What We're Looking For

    Knowledge:

    • Familiarity with major social media platforms and their use in mission-driven communication.
    • Understanding of digital engagement strategies and campaign planning.
    • Experience with analytics and social media management platforms.

    Skills:

    • Clear, compelling writing tailored to diverse online audiences.
    • Strong sense of visual storytelling, timing, and platform etiquette.
    • Ability to coordinate with multiple teams on shared content initiatives.

    Abilities:

    • Strategically grow and engage online communities.
    • Track, analyze, and adapt based on performance data.
    • Manage multiple projects and shifting priorities with creativity and care.

    Preferred Experience:

    • University coursework or professional experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or nonprofit engagement.
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a remote team setting.

    📍 Commitment & Collaboration

    • Time: 3–6 hours per week (flexible, remote)
    • Commitment: Minimum 3-month engagement preferred
    • Tools: We work via Discord, Google Workspace, Monday.com, and social scheduling tools like Buffer or HootSuite
    • Meetings: Occasional check-ins with the Communications team, with flexible scheduling

    💡 Why Volunteer with SILO²?

This is more than a social media role, it’s an opportunity to shape how communities across Alaska and beyond access life-saving knowledge and resilience tools. You’ll be part of a team blending tech, public service, and creative storytelling to transform isolated communities into connected networks of support and opportunity.

Whether you're looking to build your portfolio, expand your network, or make a difference with your digital voice, this is a chance to be part of something meaningful and innovative.
