Seeking Volunteers with Fundraising, Grant-Writing, or Communications Experience! Help Grow Food, Employment, & an Organization

Started in 2021, Thriving Youth Farmers Uganda (TYoFU) supports food security, youth empowerment, and the local economy of Masulita, Uganda and beyond. On rich farmland, TYoFU employs Ugandan youth to cultivate healthy food for their community, with a dream of becoming a multi-discipline vocational training and mentorship center for youth from all regions of Uganda. TYoFU's vision: a world in which all youth can become employed, empowered, community leaders and all people have regular access to healthy, whole food. TYoFU is a social enterprise that recently also obtained NGO status from the Ugandan government. This video tells the story of Thriving Youth Farmers Uganda's vision and inspiring efforts to date.

    Who we are looking for:

We are looking for volunteers who have grant-writing, communications, and/or other fundraising experience. TYoFU is already providing for its community, but it cannot build the structures needed for dairy cows or poultry, obtain the technology to manage the farm, or employ the young people who it aims to empower, without support. TYoFU needs initial capital and in-kind donations to elevate its potential. TYoFU needs the kinds of support that will bring them into a more financially sustainable future - one in which the harvest can truly support the next planting season, and investment in youth's futures comes back multifold. TYoFU has created a 10-year financial proposal, and ultimately, the farm plans to pay for itself.

You might be interested if at least two of the following apply to you, because you:

    • love the idea of grassroots food security AND/OR are passionate about youth empowerment/employability
    • get excited by the idea of helping a newer organization build a solid foundation
    • have experience or the willingness to help a budding organization find other organizational partners who support endeavors' like TYoFU's
    • have experience or the willingness to research capital/capacity-building grants and write proposals for an NGO seeking international funding
    • have experience in micro-lending or other forms of grassroots funding
    • have experience with or willingness to research the best ways to set up an account for international donations
    • enjoy creating online fundraisers and monthly giving programs
    • have experience with communications, including both extended narratives and social media updates, including creating reports for donors or regulatory departments
    • you have 4-5 hours a week to donate to this project most weeks - more is definitely okay!

Your interest is so heartening! It is because of people like you that solidarity and food justice is possible.

TYoFU is a community-led project, founded by Martin Tomusange, and supported by the Masulita community and local governance. Devon Little is TYoFU's American friend who has helped TYoFU take its first steps. More information about TYoFU at the beta website here. Thank you for your interest in broadening the support for TYoFU, so Martin's dream can keep emerging!
