Overview: Journey Respite Care is seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals to serve as Respite Care Volunteers. Our program provides support and relief to caregivers of individuals with early to mid stage dementia by offering care in a safe and nurturing environment. Volunteers play a crucial role in providing companionship, assistance with recreational activities for program participants, allowing caregivers to take much-needed breaks and attend to their own well-being.

    Responsibilities:

    • Engage with program participants in meaningful social interactions and companionship.
    • Lead or assist with recreational activities, games, crafts, or outings to promote mental stimulation and socialization.
    • Provide supervision and ensure the safety and well-being of program participants at all times.
    • Communicate effectively with program staff, caregivers, and other volunteers to coordinate activities and ensure continuity of care.
    • Adhere to program policies, procedures, and safety guidelines at all times.

    • Compassionate and empathetic attitude towards individuals with early to mid stage dementia.
    • Interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage others.
    • Reliable and responsible, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and respecting privacy.
    • Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the changing needs and dynamics of the program.
    • Previous experience in caregiving, healthcare, social services, or working with older adults is helpful but not required.
    • Must pass a background check and complete any required training or certifications.

    Time Commitment:

While it is not a requirement to commit to volunteering every week, it is important to provide some continuity of care for program participants. At least one day per month is expected.

    Benefits:

    • Opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families in need.
    • Gain valuable experience in caregiving, social services, and working with vulnerable populations.
    • Training and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
    • Supportive and inclusive volunteer community with opportunities for networking and social connection.
