ABOUT BEC
A Biosphere Eco-City (BEC) includes an urban core and the surrounding countryside. It uses simple
Themes and Tools to engage people and develop a culture of sustainability in a city. BEC’s 10 Tools of Sustainability – Transportation, Energy, Design, Habitat, Food, Natural Capital, Waste, Health, Recreation, and Sense of Place –represent all areas of direct action for sustainability. They serve as a framework for most BEC activities.
BECC is a national charity that supports development of BECs. Currently there are five BEC
initiatives in Canada – Ottawa, Toronto, Brampton, Edmonton, and Vancouver. For more information on the program visit https://bioecocity.org/
