School of One is an ambitious effort to customize instruction for students based on their individual academic needs and learning preferences. To do so, the model complements live teacher-led instruction with other instructional modalities such as online learning, virtual tutoring, small group collaborative instruction, and independent learning. Behind the scenes, its technology tracks key data and performance indicators, reduces administrative work for teachers, and generates custom schedules for every student, every day.
School of One is currently the full-time mathematics curriculum for nearly 1,500 students across three New York City public middle schools, has been praised by the New York Times, the Atlantic, Education Next, and Time. It has also been highlighted by US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan as an illustration of the transformative potential of technology in the classroom.
