New Jersey Public Defender, Office of Parental Representation, Appellate Section

About Us

OPR appellate attorneys provide legal representation to parents involved with the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency (formerly known as the Division of Youth and Family Services or DYFS) in Abuse and Neglect Cases (Title 9) and Termination of Parental Rights cases (Title 30). In these cases, the parent is seeking to reverse a finding of abuse and neglect and possibly, the decision of the trial court to terminate parental rights. The effects of such decisions can range from a restraint on a parent's employment prospects to the permanent severance of a parent's ties to his/her child(ren).

The Office of Parental Representation, Appellate Section (OPR Appellate), a unit of the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender, is seeking pool attorneys to represent parents on appeal to the Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division and the Supreme Court of New Jersey.

Pool attorneys are independent contractors engaged case-by-case. This is not a staff position.
