About Us

The Unit is established for research activities on extremophilic (acidophilic, alkalophilic, thermophilic, psycrophilic, barophilic, radiophilic, halophilic, xerophilic etc) microorganisms (Algae, Archaea,  Bacteria, Actinomycetes, Fungi and Protozoans) and to exploit their biotechnological applications such as antioxidants, antibiotics, enzymes etc. The unexplored microbial communities in the harsh environments of Balochistan province provide an excellent location for the establishment of this kind of research unit. RUBEM is expected to provide enormous inputs in the development of red, white, blue and green biotechnology in the Balochistan province, Pakistan and South Asia on the whole. We are also building strategies to mitigate the global warming and also providing the products from biotechnology for post global warming era.

We are located at Institute of Biochemistry, University of Balochistan, Quetta, Pakistan.
