5 kind ways to have fun this weekend
A sidewalk art museum and other fun ideas for dark times

Weekly roundup of people banding together and opportunities to make a difference.
Hi there,

When things feel hard, I usually want to just put my head down and push through. But making time for play is actually the best gift I’ve given myself lately. I can feel my stress fading away every time I start cracking up (like when I’m watching my new favorite show Nora from Queens.)

All around the world, folks are taking care of themselves and giving back to their community by just having fun. And the best part? Anyone can play, no matter who you are or what materials you have lying around. I hope this newsletter inspires you to put your worries aside and take some time to play—you’ve earned it!

Waving from NYC,
Lizzy

1. A nursing home in Wales set up a life-sized game of Hungry Hungry Hippos! Residents had to catch as many plastic balls as possible to win.

2. Allie planned a movie-themed date night for her wife, complete with a marquee, handmade tickets, and a concession stand!

3. These creative kids made stained-glass windows out of painter’s tape and washable markers.

4. This family in North Carolina hosts ‘Quarantine Olympics’ on TikTok! Every day, they do different challenges using things just lying around the house.

5. 50 families created a community art museum by drawing on their sidewalks! Kids can ride their bikes to safely see all the art in the neighborhood.

1. Watch Comedy Quarantine, a free show that takes place over Instagram every night.

2. Play card games with seniors, virtually.

3. Get your sports fix by watching this sports commentator ‘cover’ everyday things, like his dogs wolfing down their lunch.

4. Dance to songs expertly curated by our Office Manager Mizuki, or pick up other hobbies that the Idealist staff is trying out!
