Idealists in Action #08 | A few wins this week 🌈
Job and volunteer opportunities to support LGBTQ folks'.
Hi there,

This week gave us a lot to celebrate, with nearly 400 companies (including Idealist) observing Juneteenth as a holiday, the Supreme Court protecting gay and transgender workers from discrimination, and close to 15,000 people turning out to a Brooklyn rally for Black trans people, originally inspired by the NAACP’s 1917 ‘Silent Parade’. Black trans lives matter, today on Juneteenth and all 364 other days of the year, too.

Even with these victories, we’ve still got a long way to go to make our LQBTQ community comfortable and safe. Today we’re highlighting some of the struggles they face and ways that you can help right now. Let’s make this Pride Month one for the history books! 🌈

Waving from NYC,
Lizzy

“While the pandemic continues to take its toll, the impacts are often magnified for minority, at-risk, and other vulnerable populations. Among those groups, and despite their historical resilience, the LGBTQ community is particularly at-risk.

LGBTQ youth may be particularly vulnerable to negative mental health impacts associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. Homeless youth are disproportionately LGBTQ, and are particularly at risk, often without a safe option amidst shelter-in-place orders. And many LGBTQ college students are returning to homes where they may experience feelings of isolation and compromised safety.”
