    LOCATION

Primarily remote, but candidates must be located on the East Coast, ideally within a two-hour drive of Charlottesville or Richmond, Virginia to accommodate travel to periodic in-person staff gatherings, farm-visits, and events. Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license, with access to a vehicle. Reimbursement is provided for all work-related travel costs.

    ABOUT THE ROLE

Foodshed Capital is seeking a full-time, internal staff person (not a contract worker) to help us expand our support services for small- and mid-scale regenerative farms and food businesses that need more organized financials and stronger financial literacy. They’ll bring solid professional bookkeeping experience, a curious and analytical mindset, and a knack for making sense of financial data—helping establish sustainable bookkeeping practices while translating numbers into clear, actionable insights for business owners. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable working independently or collaboratively, whether digging into spreadsheets, working directly with farmers, or presenting to a group. This role is a great fit for someone who’s excited to use their financial skills for purpose-driven work and is ready to step beyond the boundaries of traditional bookkeeping to support a small, collaborative team and a big mission.

The ideal candidate is also passionate and knowledgeable about farming and local food systems. If you frequent your local farmer’s market, subscribe to a CSA, or keep backyard chickens, you might be a good fit for the FoodCap team.

This position will be a client-facing role responsible for three main areas of business support services:

    1) Comprehensive Bookkeeping Services: Bookkeeping services in Quickbooks Online and financial literacy support for individual farming operations, aiming for 15 clients in 2026.

    2) Lending Readiness Services: Audit of financials submitted by loan applicants to ensure reports are sufficient for underwriting. This includes evaluating for bookkeeping errors such as negative bank account balances, and working with applicants to generate necessary financial reports and resolve bookkeeping errors prior to underwriting. This does not include any assessment of profitability or business strategy.

    3) Public Financial Literacy Workshops: Free, public-facing, virtual programming around bookkeeping/accounting and topics that support overall business success. Workshop content will be planned in collaboration with other programming staff, with this individual taking the lead on public facilitation. (Not responsible for marketing the workshops.)

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Collaborate regularly with the lending team to evaluate loan applicant financials
    • Directly advise farm business owners with needs related to QuickBooks and bookkeeping
    • Create and facilitate public-facing financial literacy workshops (primarily virtual, although some in-person work may be required) in collaboration with other staff
    • Collaborate with the Data & Systems Manager to accurately track hours spent and types of business support provided.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Commitment to Foodshed Capital’s mission
    • Three to five years professional bookkeeping experience and familiarity with the financial circumstances of small and/or early-stage businesses
    • Certified Public Bookkeeper (CPB) certification ideal
