    ASSOCIATE

    Americas Division

    The Americas Division of Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking an Associate to provide administrative assistance to the team. The Americas Division is a part of the Program Department, which consists of regional and thematic divisions conducting research, reporting, and various other work. The Americas Division works to advance human rights in Latin America and conducts a wide range of work, including investigation, report writing, advocacy, and media work.

    This is a full-time position based in Latin American, preferably in Bogota or Mexico City. This position reports to the Director of the Americas Division. HRW anticipates that the successful candidate will begin this position in July 2025.

    Responsibilities:

    1. Provide day-to-day administrative support to the Director of the Americas Division and Division staff, including scheduling, making travel arrangements, processing divisional finances, preparing for meetings, and creating and maintaining extensive filing and archiving systems;
    2. Support the research and advocacy work of the Director of the Americas Division by attending and supporting relevant meetings, conducting desk research, and other related duties;
    3. Assist with preparing, drafting, editing, formatting, and/or distributing materials such as news releases, reports, tables, charts, briefing papers, op‑eds, publications, and web content;
    4. Draft documents and correspondence and respond to requests for information in both English and Spanish;
    5. Maintain communication among HRW’s offices, global staff, and external partners;
    6. Assist with desk research, electronic clipping, wires, and translations;
    7. Assist with events such as news conferences, staff meetings, and special events;
    8. Support the administration of social media profiles and content creation;
    9. Assist with recruitment, coordination, and mentoring of interns; and
    10. Perform other duties as required.

    Qualifications:

    Education: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent working experience in social sciences or a related field is required.

    Experience: A minimum of one year of relevant work experience in human rights or international affairs is required.

    Related Skills and Knowledge:

    1. Organizational skills are required.
    2. Research and reporting skills are required.
    3. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish are required.
    4. Interpersonal skills and ability to work well under pressure while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously are required.
    5. Ability to make sound decisions consistent with functions is required.
    6. Ability to prioritize with minimal supervision and work independently as well as function as a member of a team with staff in multiple locations globally is required.
    7. Proficiency in computer packages including MS Office applications is required.
    8. Strong interest in international human rights is preferred.
    9. Proficiency in computer design packages such as Illustrator, Premiere and Photoshop is advantageous.

    Other: Candidates must possess valid work authorization for the country in which they will be working from; HRW is unable to sponsor work visas for this role.
