    Program Description

    We are currently implementing a multi-year School Health Officer Training Program in Kenya. Launched in 2023, this initiative equips teachers with practical health skills to serve as School Health Officers (SHOs) within their schools. OGT’s proprietary training curriculum includes key areas such as clinical assessments (height, weight, mid-upper arm circumference [MUAC], growth curves), healthcare interventions (rehydration, menstrual pain, wound and burn care), and health education (nutrition, sexual and reproductive health, oral health).

    To date, the program has enrolled 90 schools, serving 27,000 students and 1,630 school staff, with an estimated community reach of 90,000 individuals across Kenya.

    Position Summary

    We are seeking a mission-driven, detail-oriented Research & Programs Assistant – Global Health to support the implementation of our health education programs.

    This part-time, fully remote position will provide health research, educational material development, and programmatic support to U.S. project leadership as part of a collaborative and dynamic team.

    Key Responsibilities

    • At the direction of the Executive Director (ED), conduct research on global health topics relevant to program focus areas using credible sources (e.g., WHO, CDC, UptoDate)
    • Assist in developing training curriculum, slide decks, infographics and other educational materials for global audience, incorporating regionally specific knowledge and education levels
    • Support program data transcription, organization, and database management
    • Take detailed notes during virtual meetings with global team members
    • Assist ED and AD with follow-up tasks
    • Organize and maintain program documentation in shared Google Drive folders

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
    • Experience supporting research, including literature reviews, reference management, or preparing background materials on public health and medical topics
    • Conversant knowledge and understanding of global health, international development, and health education in low- and middle-income country (LMIC) contexts
    • Strong attention to detail in tasks such as data entry, maintaining tracking logs or program records, and organizing digital files
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Cultural sensitivity and ability to collaborate with diverse teams
    • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines across multiple tasks
    • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides) and Zoom
    • Passion and alignment with One Good Turn’s mission

    Preferred but Not Required

    • Experience working remotely with distributed teams
    • Exposure to or interest in learning mobile data collection platforms such as CommCare and KoboToolbox intended for use in last-mile communities
    • Familiarity with Canva or similar visual content tools

    Compensation & Hours

    This is a remote, contract position for 20-25 hours per week at a rate of $22/hour.

    Working hours are flexible, but at least 75% of hours must occur during standard U.S. Central Time business hours (9:00 AM - 5:00 PM CST). Weekly meetings are required on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM CST.

    As an Independent Contractor, the employee is solely responsible for payment of all applicable taxes and reporting compensation to the Internal Revenue Service.

    Duration

    This position is grant-funded through December 31, 2025. Continuation beyond this period is dependent on funding availability, employee performance, and organizational needs.
