Summerbridge San Diego, in collaboration with the San Diego Unified School District, the University of California San Diego, and the University of San Diego, is a tuition free, rigorous two summer session program serving 150 elementary and middle school students with academic classes and leadership activities. Summerbridge San Diego is hosted at La Jolla High School. Students are taught by dedicated, talented, and highly motivated teachers composed entirely of young adults from colleges and universities nationwide. With support from master teachers, Summerbridge delegates responsibilites for teaching, curriculum development, advising, evaluation, and administration to its young staff. This is the strenthg of our program. Bright and innovative college students open intellectual doors for inquisitive, curious, young elementary and middle school students.
In addition, we also strive to include families in their students' learning, and we continue to support them throughout high school. Parents are active in helping with our extra-curricular activities throughout the summer and school year. Fundamentally, Summerbridge aims to change the way we talk and think about education. We are demonstrating that young college students can take charge of their own education while taking responsibility for the education of those eight to ten years younger. Summerbridge San Diego challenges the conventional notion of who can learn and who can teach.
