‘Alternative Approaches for Humanistic Development’

Jaagaran is a Nepalese non-profit organization founded in 2001. Its main objective is to make contributions in creating just and equitable societies. Jaagaran aims to bring positive changes in societies by taking positive actions. Its approach is to bring broader social changes by bringing positive changes at personal level.

Jaagaran is a Values-based organization.

Programs

Local Capacity Building for Poverty Alleviation program

Since 2005, it run community development program in Sankhuwasabha district of Nepal, with funding support from Heifer International.

The community development program in Sankhuwasabha district is the continuation of works of J-CON, a sister organization of Jaagaran. J-CON has been working in the program area since 1999 with funding support from NGOs Fund Program of GTZ. The program focused on economically poor and socially disadvantaged groups/communities, helping them to enable themselves by Capacity-building and empowerment activities.

There are 180 Self-Help Groups (SHGs), with participation of more than 2500 Households in 8 Village Development Committees (VDCs) of Sankhuwasabha district.

Jaagaran schools (J-Schools)

With objective to provide quality education for children from economically poor and socially disadvantaged families, Jaagaran started its first community school in 2008, in Chainpur of Sankhuwasabha district of Nepal.

The second Jaagaran School was established in Madi VDc of Sankhuwasabha district of Nepal. There are 36 students studying in the school.

Jaagaran aims to expand J-schools in other needy areas of Nepal.

The twin pillars of Jaagaran schools:

  • Quality education to give them better opportunities
  • Humanistic education to make them a better person.

Funding for the schools come from Jaagaran Social Development Fund.

Organic farm

Since 2008, we have been working on social Enterprises too, In 2008, we started an Organic farm, in Bhaktapur, Nepal. And, inn 2012, we started an Urban Farm in Kathmandu, right in th heart of the city. We hav been growing and selling organically grown Mushroom, Vegetabls and herbs.

Training and workshops

We have been working in the field of Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding, Leadership development and Personal Grwoth and Transformation too. We do run Personal Leadership Development (PLD) Workshops for general public as well as for representatives from various fields of societies. The PLD workshop is designed and developed by Mr. Debendra Manandhar, the Founding Chairman of Jaagaran.

Jaagaran Social Development Fund (JSD Fund)

In order to raise funds for Jaagaran’s social development activities, Jaagaran Social Development Fund was established in 2008. The main objectives of the JSD Fund are to raise funds for social development activities of Jaagaran and to give opportunities for individuals to share for and to be engaged in creating just and equitable societies.
