  • About Us

Chess Challenge in DC is an academic after-school program bringing the game of chess to children in Washington, DC. Using the game of chess, children learn to think strategically, develop self-discipline and positive social skills, and increase self-esteem.

The Chess Challenge curriculum uses chess as a learning tool to improve academic achievement. The program is literacy-based, using chess as a vehicle for building reading, writing, speaking, thinking, and listening skills. Ultimately, students learn to transfer fundamental chess principles such as good decision-making, goal setting and accountability for one's actions to their lives.
