One Common Heart

About Us

We support the Emberá and Wounaan indigenous people in the Darien rainforest of Panama as they celebrate and teach their ancestral knowledge and create thriving modern communities in line with their traditional vision. We sponsor a program of classes in which elders teach the younger generations the traditional culture and language, aiming to keep alive personal and community options for independence and resilience. To support a community's own desires for sustainable technological development, we also offer teaching workshops and discussions about sustainable growth options.

We are guided by an all-Indigenous Advisory Council, that since 2017 has focused us on language. We proudly ran the first ever in-community Emberá revitalization classes in Panama, and aim to expand our work.

We are inspired by these and other organizations: Pachamama Alliance, Four Worlds International, The Barefoot College, Local Futures, Schooling the World, and Cultural Survival.
