The Capitol Press Corps is in its initial organization as a 501(c)(3) to maintain journalistic independence within a shifting media landscape. Beginning in 2010, the corps began reporting and producing online content independent of other media organizations within the Colorado and Utah markets. Recognized by major institutions of higher education, the mission of the Capitol Press Corps is to nurture new journalistic talent at a time when Pew Research indicates that 60% of the populace has smartphones and now receives their news and information by link. Pioneering the concept of "micro-syndication," the organization seeks grant funding from individuals and foundations.
