  • About Us

DESEA Peru’s mission is to work with impoverished Andean communities of southern Peru to improve their health outcomes, education, and economic development opportunities. In individual indigenous communities this work is accomplished through installation of biosand water filters in households and schools, by community health nursing and education, and by training of (mainly illiterate) local women as community health workers. DESEA promotes extension of its community-based health and education model to indigenous communities elsewhere in the Peruvian Andes by collaboration with government agencies and NGOs, community exchanges, and information publication.
