Friends of Hempstead Plains is dedicated to the protection and restoration of the Hempstead Plains - a native, grassland prairie of Nassau County, Long Island. We protect and manage two preserves that contain the last remnants of this grassland prairie that once spanned 40,000 acres across central Long Island. The preserves are home to 250 species of plants, including six New York state rare and endangered species.
