ServeNext is a nonpartisan grassroots advocacy organization determined to make national service programs like AmeriCorps an enduring political priority. We are working towards the day when a term of service is commonplace for Americans as a strategy to tackle pressing social challenges and strengthen our democracy.
To achieve this goal, we are building a national grassroots constituency that is powerful, proactive, and permanent so that supporting national service is not a question for our elected leaders, but the expectation.
ServeNext builds permanent local Networks of service supporters to continuously engage members of Congress and other key decision makers about the value and impact of national service. Talking with members of Congress locally, in their states and districts, is the key to building the sustained support needed to ensure that more Americans have the opportunity to serve.ServeNext has repeatedly proven the impact of grassroots advocacy on national politics. Its pilot campaign in 2007 made national service an issue during the presidential campaign. Nine candidates (including the eventual President) signed ServeNext’s pledge to expand AmeriCorps by 100,000 members.
This success was critical in paving the way for the development and eventual passage of the historic Serve America Act in 2009. Over the last two years, ServeNext’s grassroots efforts have been instrumental in staving off major threats to the federal funding of national service programs.
ServeNext has been covered in TIME, The Boston Globe, CBSNews.com, The Chronicle of Philanthropy, CNN, Politico, The Hill, and many local papers.
