Alliance of Mayors and Municipal Leaders on HIV/AIDS in Africa

About Us

The Alliance of Mayors and Municipal Leaders on HIV/AIDS is an international non-governmental organization based in Windhoek, Namibia and has been operational since 2002. The Alliance is governed by a constitution and a Coordinating Committee. National chapters of the Alliance have been launched in 12 countries in Africa, as of September 2004. Through its advocacy and capacity building efforts the Alliance is promoting and supporting scaled up and community based responses to the epidemic at the local level. The approaches underpinning its work encourage collaboration between local government authorities and civil society and promote coordinated action at municipal level. Through an action programme known as AMICAALL – Alliance of Mayors’ Initiative for Community Action on AIDS” - targeted capacity building is undertaken and local stakeholders are supported to address urgent needs and priorities while at the same time enhancing their capacity to plan and manage an expansion of HIV/AIDS related services and programmes in cities, towns and villages.
