Several years ago, Roger Grunwald conceived and first brought to the stage an original Holocaust-themed stage work that, since 2014, he has been touring internationally to considerable acclaim
. Over the course of 2016, Mr. Grunwald rewrote, re-conceived and reworked The Mitzvah Project (the title of the original production and the name of the project that is fiscally-sponsored by the New York Foundation for the Arts) transforming the short play and lecture into a new, full-length one-person stage drama called The Obligation
. The new play, which will have its theatrical (and world) premiere in the fall of 2017 under the direction of Nancy Carlin
, incorporates, expands upon and deepens the narratives, characters and themes of The Mitzvah Project.
