Jewish Farm School

  • About Us

Mission: The Jewish Farm School teaches about contemporary food and ecological issues through rigorous academic learning and innovative, skill-based Jewish agricultural education.

Driven by Jewish tradition, we address the injustices embedded in today’s mainstream food systems and work to create greater access to sustainably grown foods that promote both ecological and social well being.

    Vision:

We envision a world where people live in ways that safeguard the viability of the planet. We imagine a world where human beings feel an instinctive sense of kinship with, and responsibility for, all life and where our communities and food systems reflect these values.

    Our Values:

    We believe that:

    • All people deserve access to healthy, affordable food that is healthy for humans and the earth
    • Direct engagement with the process of growing and preparing food is impactful and can transform how we relate to the earth as a whole
    • Food and farming are powerful nexus points for building community and culture
    • Our ecological crisis requires a fundamental shift in how we experience ourselves as part of the world
    • The most transformative educational experiences occur when the mind, body and spirit are simultaneously engaged
    • Jewish values and tradition have a positive, meaningful role to play in informing the how we study and engage food and ecological issues
    • Direct exposure to agricultural processes deepens our connection to Jewish life and tradition
