The Peacock Foundation
Children and animals have an innate magnetism. When you take rescued and rehabilitated animals and partner them with trained mental health professionals you create a method of intervention that can reduce violence, increase self-esteem, and provide a better future. We all need compassion and empathy and what better way to provide it than through the paws of another.
We provide group therapy for at-risk and traumatized youth living in Los Angeles. These children are dealing with family, social, and societal crisis and many times do not see any hope for the future. By allowing them physical contact with animals we access a way to build trust and lower anxiety. Then our counselors are able to help each child identify and manage their emotions. Turning to the animals instead of drugs, alcohol, sex, or violence.
