About Us

The goal of the collaboration between the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and the College of Surgeons of Central, East and Southern Africa (COSECSA) is to increase the provision of quality essential surgical and emergency care in sub-Saharan Africa. This will be achieved through the implementation of a unique, innovative surgical education and training programme.

RCSI leverages its globally unique depth of expertise in the management and delivery of postgraduate surgical training and undergraduate medical training to assist the expansion and quality assurance of COSECSA’s training programmes. The Colleges collaborate in the running of training courses, examinations and e-learning courses. RCSI’s expertise and intellectual property is utilised in the rollout of IT infrastructure, marketing and communications. Increasingly the Colleges collaborate at a management and corporate level in areas such as strategic planning, recruitment and financial management. Most importantly this programme is COSESCA led and RCSI facilitated, it is about achieving genuine partnership.
