The 1990 Institute
The 1990 Institute’s mission is to broaden understanding and build trust between the people of the United States and China through education, philanthropy and collaboration.
Founded by a group of prominent academic, business, and community leaders with a deep interest in U.S.-China relations, the 1990 Institute began as a think tank researching major economic and social issues related to China. We have published books and issue papers, and sponsored conferences and symposia.
Over the years, the 1990 Institute expanded its mission and developed education and philanthropic programs in China in the areas of girls’ education, cross-cultural exchanges, and microfinance business education.
The Institute is now focused on developing education and exchange programs for American and Chinese teachers and students.
The 1990 Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in San Francisco.
