The mission of Brooklyn Zen Center (BZC) is to cultivate an open community based on the Buddha’s teachings of love and interconnectedness. The formal name for our practice space is Koshin-ji, or Boundless Mind Temple. We continue to practice in our tradition with the belief that all beings are buddha.
BZC is dynamic, growing 501(c)3 religious non-profit and Soto Zen Buddhist temple, devoted to a socially engaged and progressive vision of Buddhism in America. As a core aspect of our vision, we are committed to building an inclusive community at every organizational level. We are especially engaged in efforts to dialogue and organize around anti-oppression and undoing bias throughout our organization as well as New York and national Buddhist communities.
The BZC offers a place to study Buddhist ethics and philosophy, and to embody the wisdom, compassion, and community of the Buddha as it has been carried down through our tradition, first established by Eihei Dogen Zenji in the 13th century and brought to us by Shunryu Suzuki Roshi and our current teachers.
