About Us
Kateri Park and Esperanza Court are two affordable housing communities located just south of Powell on 28th Avenue. In many of our apartments, our residents are refugees. The largest group are from Somalia, and among the Somalis, the largest group are Somali Bantu. We also have a growing Burmese community, several Ethiopian families, and some Nepali families as well. The Somalis, and particularly the Somali Bantu, face formidable obstacles now that they live in Portland. Most of the adults speak very little English, and are illiterate in any language. The Resident Services office provides support and programming through a variety of programs and volunteer opportunities.
