MISSION: SVIT is independent democratic working group of four Ukrainian NGOs, which united their efforts to support and develop their country's volunteer movement by organizing summer camps, joint projects and training, and providing information to all interested individuals and organizations.
SVIT believes that volunteer programs are one of the most efficient tools of intercultural exchange, increasing tolerance toward other countries and cultures and learning democratic traditions. We recognize several problems that hinder development of a volunteer movement in Ukraine. Our country lacks information about volunteering, and people often misunderstand the philosophy and purpose of volunteering. This misconception originates, primarily, from the former practice of communist "subbotnics," which entailed enforced volunteer work on Saturdays. Also, Ukrainian NGOs have not had extensive experience organizing work camps, fundraising for volunteer projects or establishing contacts and partnerships.
