About Us

KLEO provides educational and humanitarian support to ethnic Karen people residing in North-western Thailand and in Ottawa, Canada. The Karen people are an ethnic group residing in Eastern Burma and North-western Thailand who face economic, social and language barriers. There are estimated to be between three to seven million Karen people living in Burma and Thailand and around 400 Karen refugees have resettled in Ottawa.

KLEO aims to support and empower ethnic the Karen people through their struggles and in their journey to successful/independent lives and better futures. All our programs are created in consultation with the Karen people, ensuring we conduct only those activities the Karen themselves see a need for. Also, our programs are sustainable, ensuring that one day the Karen people can manage these projects independently.
