  • About Us

The Read to Me Project mission is helping underserved children achieve kindergarten readiness and a lifetime of literacy by inspiring and training older brothers and sisters to read daily to younger pre-school age siblings. With more than 5,000 annual births reported by Salinas Valley hospitals every year and 7,000 children entering kindergarten County wide – 70% are unprepared for school. In fact, many of those children are entering kindergarten lagging as much as two years behind. Imagine a five year old entering kindergarten with the cognitive, language and vocabulary skills of a three year old.

While program has continuously expanded nearly year since 2011, new leadership is expected to take Read to Me Project to a greater level of capacity and achievement.
