Children Sickle Cell Foundation - Kenya is an independent not-for-profit community based organization, (run by members of the sickle cell community for the benefit of members of the sickle cell community), dedicated to improving the quality of life of persons with sickle cell disease. developing essential skills of advocacy in said population, toward the ultimate objectives of individual as well as community empowerment.

 

Children Sickle Cell Foundation - Kenya. was founded in the year 2001 by a group o partners who had children with Sickle Cell together with their doctor Dr. K.C. Wafula based in Nairobi, Kenya. They founded the foundation out of frustration that face both an adult and children as well as difficulties encountered as a patient/care partner or parent. The motto of the organization, "Turning Sickles into Smiles" aims to cope with the overwhelming obstacles and emotional challenges that are a part of living with a serious, chronic disease that is under-funded, undervalued and the target of much ignorance and prejudice discouraging empty complaints without the suggestion of a solution to whatever problems that are faced by Sickler, care giver and/or care partner.
