About Us

Vision problems affect more than five million elementary school children nationwide and amblyopia, or “lazy eye,” is the leading cause of monocular blindness in America. This treatable condition, if left undetected, can lead to lifelong and significant academic, health, and psychosocial consequences.

We are the nation’s only non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating preventable blindness through effective vision screenings in schools. Because vision disorders can occur at any age, our goal is to ensure that all school-aged children receive a vision screening annually. We have a proven, effective, and comprehensive vision screening program that identifies those children in need of vision assistance and provides referrals to school nurses and parents. To date we have screened over 50,000 children, and with your help we can reach thousands more.
