About Us

We help Metro Detroit students figure out what they'll do after high school, teach them important life and job readiness skills, and provide career mentoring and support starting in tenth grade and continuing through four years of college or trade school. Career mentors are volunteers from the business community who coach students and provide encouragement as they go through the program. Our program is held at participating high schools in Detroit, Harper Woods, Warren, and Sterling Heights. There are two or three one-hour sessions each month, from November through May, held at the school, during the school day, in the classroom, with staff, students, and other career mentors and students present. Sessions typically start with a staff member who teaches a 10 to 15 minute lesson. Then career mentors participate with their students in structured discussions and fun activities that reinforce the lesson. All career mentors receive training before the program starts and support before, during, and after every session. Topics include things like career exploration, strengths and weaknesses identification, goal setting, and academic and career planning. Learn more at https://winningfutures.org/get-involved/
