  • About Us

With its mission to “to teach the practical application of the principles of the American Founding to the next generation of Conservative leaders, and to build them into a community dedicated to preserving constitutional government,” the Claremont Institute has for over 30 years been a strong and effective leader in the movement for limited government, free markets, and a strong national defense. Founded in1979, the Claremont Institute publishes the Claremont Review of Books, sponsors the Publius, Lincoln and John Marshall Fellowships for rising conservative leaders, and administers a variety of programs on politics and constitutionalism. The Claremont Institute’s focus is on the principles that must inform sound policy rather than the day-to-day policy itself. A recovery of the American idea requires engaging and winning the battle of ideas.
