About Us

The New Markets Lab (NML) is a non-profit organization based in Washington, DC that was created to open new markets to the benefit of smaller producers and entire communities through inclusive investment and legal and regulatory approaches. The organization has pioneered a market-driven, systems approach and process and partnerships with businesses, governments, technical experts, international institutions, individual entrepreneurs, and civil society organizations to ensure that market, legal, and regulatory systems develop in a way that encourages inclusive growth. NML studies, analyzes, and applies best practices across all aspects of investment, market development, and economic and trade law and regulation, leveraging activities along value chains (particularly in the agriculture sector) to unlock new economic opportunity. The New Markets Lab team has worked in sub-Saharan Africa, India, China, Southeast Asia, Latin America, Russia and Eastern Europe. Through its global partnerships, including investors, technical experts, businesses, and lawyers and law school programs, NML is building a new cadre of professionals equipped to promote inclusive market development and effective legal and regulatory reform.
