The Massachusetts Moderators Association is a nonprofit, nonpartisan association that provides opportunities for its members to communicate and meet in order to exchange ideas and information which can enhance the conduct of town meetings and for the education of moderators, other state and local officials, and the public about town meeting procedures. Our membership includes active and former elected Town Moderators. In Massachusetts municipalities are organized either as cities or towns. In Massachusetts towns, the legislative body is called Town Meeting. The citizens elect the Moderator to preside over Town Meeting. The MMA is run almost completely on a volunteer basis by its members, with just a limited part-time administrative employee.
