    Founded in 1974, the World Environment Center is an independent, global non-profit, non-advocacy organization that advances sustainable development through the business practices of member companies and in partnership with governments, multi-lateral organizations, non-governmental organizations, universities and other stakeholders. It accomplishes this by providing:

    ? a platform for collaboration, partnership and the exchange of information between industry, government, non-governmental organizations and other sectors;

    ? international recognition for outstanding accomplishments through its WEC Gold Medal for International Corporate Achievement in Sustainable Development, which was established in 1985; and

    ? capacity building programs.
