American Jewish University is seeking a Director, Business and Administration Services
The Director, Business and Administration policy is a position that offers interesting challenges and significant opportunities for growth. The ideal candidate is most likely a person who has the following qualifications: a) has worked for several years in the management of a small to mid-size for-profit enterprise; b) has garnered diverse experience in the areas of both finance and human resources; and c) is now interested in moving into the nonprofit sector. However, we are also open to the possibility of hiring an energetic, early career person with an appropriate educational background who is interested in expanding his/her skills in the areas of finance, human resources and technology. It is understood that the Director will undertake increasing managerial responsibilities over time. The assumption of additional responsibilities will be accompanied by a commensurate advancement in salary and position. The Director, Business and Administration Services reports to and works directly with the Vice President for Finance, Administration and Technology on projects in the areas of Human Resources, Finance (accounting, annual audit, internal controls), Compliance, Investment Management, Student Financial Services, Campus Technology, Risk Management and Legal.

The following are examples of tasks that the Director will undertake in partnership with the Vice President. In time, some of these tasks will become the direct responsibility of the Director
Human Resources : Manage Human Resources unit and operations, responsible for compliance with state and federal regulations, employee training, evaluations and discipline procedures
Budget: Work closely with the Vice President in developing and monitoring the annual operational and capital budgets including reconciliations. Perform financial analyses and projections as needed
Accounting: Work with the Vice President on the development of policies and procedures to ensure internal controls, improve processes and compliance with governmental regulations, Remain current on all FASB and GAAP regulations
Audit: Work with the Vice President during the various audit processes
Investments: Work with the Vice President in the preparation of reports related to investments, work with the Vice President in the implementation of investment committee decisions
Risk Management: Participate in the development, implementation and enforcement of policies and procedures in the areas of finance, budgets, accounting, human resources and technology. Communicate with other departments regarding policies, procedures to ensure compliance with federal and state laws; participate in the analysis of the different insurance policies and with needs assessment; participate in arranging required training for staff and supervisors to minimize risk.
1. Appropriate university degree in a relevant area, MBA preferred
2. Hands-on experience in the areas indicated in the job description
3. Familiarity with software normally associated with the areas described above
4. Demonstrated ability to exercise independent and professional judgment
5. Strong presentation, problem solving and critical thinking skills
6. Strong planning and project management skills
7. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing
8. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff
