MARC Academy and Family Center, Inc.
The MARC Academy and Family Center, Inc (Math, Arts, Reading, and Culture) began serving children in 1994, as a grassroots organization operating out of the basement of a local church. The founders of MARC were community activists who believed in education as the key to break the cycle of poverty that has plagued the South Bronx for decades. Since opening our doors 14 years ago, MARC has developed an impressive record of success in enriching the lives of children in the South Bronx. Thousands of low-income families have benefited from our pre-school, after-school, and parent programs and its dedicated, qualified, and experienced educational and support staff.
The philosopher Epictetus’ quote, “Only the Educated are Free”, truly embodies all that we stand for. To that end, MARC’s mission is to provide underserved children of the Bronx and their families with the opportunity to develop their social, creative, and academic skills so that they may become lifelong learners and responsible citizens who are free to make educated and informed decisions in their lives. Success manifests in the form of self-esteem, measurable academic growth, and responsible actions.
