Teamsters for a Democratic Union
Teamsters for a Democratic Union (TDU) is the largest and most successful rank and file labor union reform movement in the U.S. today. In large part due to TDU's efforts, Teamsters today find themselves in a greatly improved position to determine their own destiny and to hold labor union leaders accountable.
Since its founding in 1976, TDU has pioneered an alternative brand of labor unionism built around our goal of a strong and democratically run Teamsters union, one which fights for social justice and not just bread-and-butter issues. Democracy, to us, means the active participation of working people in the institutions that shape their lives. It means an expansive democracy, including solidarity with and support for the working poor and people of color.
At its root is a belief that the power of working people can only be fully realized when workers themselves become educated, involved, and in control of their own labor unions.
